It’s a question as old as Manhattan schist. Know The Score is an attempt to answer it. Every week, I interview native and non-native New Yorkers about what keeps them in this city, what you need to know to make it here and what they wish you understood about them.

Who writes this?!

My name is Isabel and I moved to the city from the U.K. in 2024. An anthropologist by training, journalist by trade and immigrant a couple of times over, I’m sentimental about New York and basically think it’s the center of the universe. When this city doesn’t make me laugh, smile, or curse, it makes me cry on the subway which, I guess, qualifies me to be a New Yorker.
